Course Aim:

To introduce the complete beginner to sailing and to teach personal safety, seamanship & helmsmanship to the level required to be a useful crew member of a cruising yacht.   To open up a whole range of new holiday and recreational experiences.

  • Engine Componets & checks
  • Dinghy
  • Basic Navigation
  • Basis Meteorology
  • Docking / boat handling
  • Rules of the road
  • MOB under power
  • Helmsmanship / reefing sails
Day 3
  • Revision
  • Knots
  • Boat Handling
  • MOB under sail
  • Night sailing
  • Meteorology northern hemishpere
  • Beaufont Scale
  • Basic Tidal stream
Day 4
  • Advance sail trimming
  • Night sailing
  • Basic Tidal stream
Day 5
  • Practical Assessment

Notes:

  • RYA Competent Crew Certificate will be awarded by the instructor at the successful completion of the course.

  • Requirement to gain RYA certificate at end of course: 5 days, 100 miles. These will be all covered during a 5 day course.
